Present state of understanting of the breakdown of passivitty and repassivation

Abstract

The pasivity breakdown literature has beeh -reviewed by Kolotyrkin (l), Szklarskar-SmialowBlca (2), and more reoently by Kroger (3) and Hisamatsu(4). In the present rerview, a compilation is made of the recent Information published on pitting, and a razionalization is attempted of the Information available. The present review deals mainly with the pitting initiation process; information on pit propagation kinetics has not been included.
