Actividades de desarrollo para la fabricación de elementos combustibles en la Argentina

Abstract

La fabricación de elementos combustibles para reactores de potencia tiene características tecnológicas y de inversiones que hacen que pueda ser encarada en forma integral por países en desarrollo. Se describen los trabajos realizados en CNEA a partir de 1967 con esta finalidad. Las etapas de desarrollo de tecnología, fabricación de prototipos y los estudios para la fabricación industrial se muestran en su estado actual y futuro próximo. Se ha incluido asimismo dentro de este programa integral a los combustibles a base de plutonio, tratando de conservar el esquema de inversiones mínimas para los desarrollos correspondientes.

The technological and financial aspects of the fabrication of fuel elements for power reactors are such that developing countries can engage inallstages of the fabrication process. The paper reports on what Argentina's National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA) has been doing since 1967 with a viev/ to embarking upon fuel-element fabrication. The development of the necessary techniques, the manufacture of prototypes and studies relating to fabrication on an industrial scale are described by the author, who gives an account not only of the current situation but also of what is expected in the near future. The country’ s integrated program includes plutonium-based fuels, although the CNEA is trying to keep the level of investment as low as possible.
