Resumen
The stress dependence of the start temperature for the martensitic transformation has been measured for single crystals of 39.2-40.4 a t.% Zn deformed in tension and in compression. The entropy change AS is found to be independent of crystal orientation and composition; its value is AS — 0.31 0.01 cal/moldeg. The critical shear stress to induce the "memory” type plastic deformation in the martensitic single crystals has also been measured an<l the stacking fault energy F has been deduced. 1' depends strongly on the zinc concentration. Using the experimentally deterrnined AS and F, the stability of the martensitic phase is discussed.
