dc.description.abstractThe critical resolved shear stress for the transformation from martensite to fcc has been measured for ternary CuZnAl alloys. It is shown that the energy difference between the disordered fcc a phase solid solution and the ordered mar tensite at the same composition is the sum of an order contribution from fourth nearest neighbor pairs and of a term which is determined by the a phase stacking fault energy. Implications on martensitic transformations are discussed.
