Resumen
Argentina has adopted a nuclear policy based on natural uranium, with heavy water as moderator and coolant. In the light of this decision, tritium monitoring has become a very important matter from the health-physics point of view. A comparative study of the regulations of the exporting countries and of the importer together with an analysis of available detection methods has indicated that, if the supplier’s regulations and the recommendations of the ICRP are to be met, proportional counters must be used for tritium monitoring. CNEA ’s experience with such detectors over four years of operation for nuclear safety purposes is summarized.
