Resumen
The principal objective of the project under contract is the determination of discrimination and turnover parameters relating Strontium-90 bone levels to the contamination of diet. The study was aimed at the young ages, for which the turnover of bone minerals and the discrimination between strontium and calcium were expected to differ from the values found in adults. Another objective of the project, which is connected to the one mentioned above, is the determination of representative values for the levels of Strontium-90 in large areas of Argentina. The procedure used in the study has been the measurement of Strontium- 90 and stable strontium levels in bone samples and in corresponding diets. As information of skeletal turnover and strontium to calcium discrimination developed, it became apparent that knowledge on the behavior of alkaline-earths in bone could be improved by studying a third element (Ra-226).
