Identity relations for a certain type of lattice sums

Abstract

The identity between two expressions of the potential in a crystal made of point charges is proved by applying Cauchy’s theorem o f residues to a suitable function. The procedure can be easily generalized, and the results may be applied to calculating in a more efficient way a certain type of lattice sums.
