dc.description.abstractThe standard deviation distribution corresponding to the spatial distribution of energy deposited in the slowing down of atomic particles in solids is calculated. Large fluctuations are found that agree well with Monte-Carlo simulations for fluctuations in the deposited energy and sputtering yields.
