Ítem Acceso Abierto Collectors for intermediate temperature applications(Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica (Argentina), 1982) Moragues, Jaime B. A.Solar thermal technology for intermediate temperatures is one of the niost extensive ways of applying solar energy, since it is possible to use it for different purposes such as air-conditioning, industrial process heat, power for irrigation pumping and electric power generation. In al 1 theses cases it can work in conjunction with conventional plants as fue! saver (hybrid or cogeneration). The present stateof art allows to affirm that the feasibility of converting solar energy into heat useful for the different applications mentioned before by means of several kinds of collectors has been demonstrated, and that for a large scale use, the only developments required are those appropriate to reduce the cost of the systems. It should be emphasized that the required technology is not complex, specially when compared against nuclear technology, and that it is within reach of countries with an average degree of technological development such as some of the Latin American countries. The present work will briefly describe the different solar collectors suitable for the intermediate-temperature range between aproximately 100 and 500°C, including some of their more oustanding characteristics. Some examples of systems in construction or operation around the world, as well as their present and projected costs are al so presented.
