    It is shown that a bifurcation o f the equilibrium solutions for straight elliptical plasma columns with a diffuse current profile exists for a suitable choice o f the currents in the external conductors.

    Tilting mode in field-reversed configurations

    The energy principle is applied to the case of the tilting mode in field-reversed configurations. Prolate equilibria are shown to be unstable and the analytic expression of the growth rate is given.
